As the excitement builds for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur has firmly stolen the pre-tournament headlines. Known for her fiery passion on the field and absolute candor off it, the veteran all-rounder made it crystal clear that she has no immediate plans of hanging up her boots. During the official ICC Captain’s Day media session in England on Sunday, Kaur handled a tricky question regarding her international future with typical grace and a sharp, witty comeback that quickly set social media abuzz.

Harmanpreet Kaur delivers cheeky comeback to question on final T20 World Cup appearance

The 37-year-old batting icon is preparing to lead the Women in Blue in yet another global showpiece event. However, midway through the press conference, a reporter asked if this tournament, kicking off on June 12, would mark her final appearance on the World Cup stage.

Instead of offering a standard, diplomatic answer, the Indian skipper completely turned the tables on the journalist with a brilliant, grin-flashing exchange:

Reporter: “Is this going to be your last World Cup?”

    Harmanpreet: “Why?”

Reporter: (Laughs) “Just asking. Just checking. Glad it’s not.”

Harmanpreet: “You think I should stop?”

Reporter: “Not at all. Just checking.”

Harmanpreet: “Then why are you asking?”

The playful yet firm shut-down highlighted her current mindset. Kaur is not just surviving at the highest level; she is breaking records. By stepping onto the field in England, she officially surpasses New Zealand’s Suzie Bates for the most appearances in women’s international cricket history. With fitness and form still on her side, the veteran leader showed she is completely focused on the trophy, not her exit papers.

    Here’s the video:

India to open their campaign with June 14 clash

While the marquee tournament officially gets underway on June 12 with hosts England facing off against Sri Lanka, India will launch their highly anticipated campaign on June 14 in a high-octane clash against arch-rivals Pakistan.

The team enters the tournament seeking redemption following a tough T20I series defeat against England. Despite the recent setback, Kaur remains optimistic and transparent about Team India’s tactical blueprint and combinations.

“I think we are pretty much clear, and still we have two more practice games before the World Cup where we can think about the other combinations,” the skipper stated. She explicitly praised domestic standouts like spinner Radha Yadav and middle-order batter Bharti Fulmali, hinting that the warm-up fixtures will be crucial to finalize the optimal playing XI.

“Radha did really well in the WPL, and she also feels ready. Apart from her, Bharti Fulmali is a middle-order batter who has also batted really well. We still have two very good players who are sitting out, and hopefully, we will give them a fair chance in the practice games,” she added.

To perfectly adapt to the local English conditions, the squad arrived early to transition seamlessly. India faces the West Indies in their first warm-up fixture on Monday afternoon, followed by a final rehearsal against England. Armed with a settled squad structure and a captain completely unfazed by external pressure, the Women in Blue look poised to make a massive statement on the world stage.
