BE:FIRST’s official Instagram account broke the news on June 12, pairing the two artists’ names with the song title and hashtags #JanetxBEFIRST and #DRMRemix. The post drew over 30,000 likes. For a project with no audio previewed yet, that’s a strong early response.
“Doesn’t Really Matter” was a commercial high point for Jackson. It reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2000 and served as the lead single from the Nutty Professor II: The Klumps soundtrack. The song’s uptempo R&B-pop sound made it one of her most widely played tracks of that decade. Its bright, hook-driven structure makes it a natural candidate for a remix treatment. It’s stayed in rotation at her live shows across multiple touring cycles since.

BE:FIRST is a seven-member group formed in 2021 through a competition series called “THE FIRST,” run by Japanese independent label BMSG. They debuted in October 2021 with “Gifted” and have released multiple singles and EPs since. Their catalog blends R&B, pop, and hip-hop across Japanese and English-language releases. Several of their tracks use both Japanese and English verses. That format positions them well for international features. The group has been intentional about building outside Japan, and their fanbase now extends across Southeast Asia and onto global streaming platforms.
A collaboration with Jackson is a clear step up in visibility for BE:FIRST. She’s among the best-selling recording artists in pop history, with No. 1 singles stretching back to the mid-1980s. BE:FIRST are still building their international profile. Her name on a joint release opens doors in markets the group hasn’t fully reached yet.
