New Scary Movie Flick Hits Theaters
The Scary Movie franchise was created by the Wayans brothers as a comedy parody of the Scream movie franchise. But no horror movie is safe from getting spoofed or referenced. The studio dropped the Wayans brothers after the first two movies and went on to make parts 3, 4, and 5. Anna Faris was in parts 3 and 4 but the studio went with an all-new cast for Scary Movie 5.
13 years after that movie came out, the Wayans got the rights back and decided to make another film. They invited Anna Faris to reprise the role of Cindy. She spoke to PEOPLE magazine about how much that meant to her. “I had been coming around to the idea of Hollywood sort of putting me out to pasture,” the actress, 49. She continued acting after leaving Mom, but her tense divorce from Chris Pratt dominated headlines.
The new Scary Movie hit theaters on June 5. It was a massive success. It grossed an estimated $55 million in the U.S. and Canada on opening weekend. Regina Hall also returned as Cindy’s bestie, Brenda.

Her latest appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show sparked even more concern. Anna Faris expressed gratitude to Keenan-Ivory Wayans for casting her in the first Scary Movie despite her inexperience. The actress talked about her home burning down in the California wildfires in 2025.
