The Brewers tagged Phillies’ lefty Cristopher Sanchez for a pair of home runs on Sunday. Jackson Chourio led off the game with a homer. Blake Perkins hit a three-run blast in the fourth inning. After allowing three home runs over his first 13 starts, Sanchez has now given up three long balls over his past two outings.
1. Rockies set franchise record
Colorado hung 23 runs on the A’s at Las Vegas Ballpark on Sunday, cruising past its previous franchise mark for scoring. The Rockies had scored 20 runs in a game on four occasions. The club slugged six home runs, including two each for Hunter Goodman and Willi Castro. The latter broke the scoring record on a grand slam in the eighth inning. The matchup closes the book on the A’s in Vegas this season. In six games, there were a combined 102 runs scored and 35 home runs.
2. Yankees beat Blue Jays with late rally
New York took two of three from Toronto over the weekend, capped off by an exciting win in the final frame on Sunday. The teams entered the ninth inning locked in a 3-3 tie. Designated hitter Ben Rice stepped to the plate with a runner on against lefty Braydon Fisher. Rice yanked a full-count slider down the right field line for a go-ahead home run. After a pair of walks, Jose Caballero broke the game open with a three-run homer. It was the Yankees’ second straight day with a ninth-inning rally to beat the Blue Jays.
3. Myers to get a shot in the rotation
The Mets are expected to recall right-hander Tobias Myers to start on Monday against the Reds (h/t Anthony DiComo of MLB.com). The former Brewer was sent down at the end of May after struggling in the bullpen. Myers only got up to 36 pitches and 2 2/3 innings in his most recent Triple-A appearance, so Monday’s outing will likely be an abbreviated one. With Clay Holmes and Kodai Senga sidelined, plus David Peterson getting bumped to the bullpen, there’s an opportunity for Myers to stick in New York’s rotation. He put together a pair of solid seasons with Milwaukee, including a 3.00 ERA across 138 innings in 2024.
