Kate Mansi recently exited Port Charles around three years after joining the cast of General Hospital. Fans recently saw her final performance on the soap, at least for now. Since then, the actress has opened up about the situation.
Kate Mansi Has Brought A Few Soap Characters To Life Over The Years, From Abigail Deveraux To Kristina Davis
Mansi has had a prominent career in soaps. From 2011 to 2016, she played Abigail Deveraux on Days of Our Lives. She later returned in 2019 as a recurring character until 2020.
In 2023, fans saw Mansi join the cast of General Hospital as Kristina Davis. The character had been played by a number of actresses over the years, including Lindsey Morgan and Lexi Ainsworth.
Recently, in a conversation with TV Insider, Mansi shared that she decided not to renew her contract so she could open up her schedule. She shared, “I knew my contract was up in April, and I wanted to give them proper notice so that they could plan their future storytelling.”
In the show, Kristina was inspired to apply to medical school thanks to her sister’s health issues and the loss of her baby. She shared a few final scenes with family, including her parents Alexis and Sonny, before heading off to the West Coast.
Mansi noted that she gave most of her co-stars a heads-up when she decided to leave the soap. However, she decided to wait to tell her on-screen father, Maurice Benard, until the day they taped their final scenes together.
The Actress Revealed That She Initially Kept Her Exit A Secret From One General Hospital Co-Star In Particular
The actress shared that Benard got emotional from the news. She shared, “He was crying, and he asked me in rehearsal, ‘Is this it, kid? Are you really leaving?’ And I said, ‘Yes.’ He gave me a big hug, and we both cried. During taping, it was a very meaningful, authentic reaction we both had saying good-bye to each other, which is what I really wanted, because the father-daughter relationship for Kristina and Sonny, and for Maurice and me, has been so special and unique. But it was really hard.”
Something that made the moment especially emotional for Mansi was that she had recently lost a friend, Patrick Muldoon of Days of Our Lives fame. She noted, “That experience made me very aware of the friendships we create in these jobs on shows like this every single day and how much I cherish them.”

For the time being, Mansi is going to join her husband, producer Matt McInnis, in Europe. However, fans are wondering if they will one day see her back in Port Charles. With a wink, she teased, “Anything is possible.”
