England have unveiled a 15-player squad for their highly anticipated one-off women’s Test against India, with captain Nat Sciver-Brunt set to lead the side into a historic occasion at Lord’s from July 10. The fixture marks the first women’s Test to be staged at the iconic venue featuring England as hosts, adding another milestone to the nation’s growing investment in the women’s game.

Despite recently aggravating a calf injury during the ongoing T20 World Cup campaign, Sciver-Brunt has been included in the squad and is expected to take charge. The all-rounder’s selection signals confidence in her recovery and underlines her importance to England’s plans in the longest format.

The upcoming contest will be Sciver-Brunt’s 13th appearance in Test cricket and her first as captain at Lord’s. Her leadership will be backed by a blend of seasoned campaigners and exciting young talents as England seek to make a statement in front of a home crowd.

Among the experienced names is Heather Knight, who remains the most-capped Test cricketer in the squad. The accomplished batter is set to make her 15th appearance in the format and will bring valuable stability and leadership to the batting lineup. Other established internationals such as Tammy Beaumont, Sophie Ecclestone, Amy Jones and Lauren Bell also feature, ensuring England possess a strong core of players familiar with high-pressure international cricket.

The inclusion of Sciver-Brunt despite her recent injury setback will be particularly encouraging for England supporters, as her all-round abilities often prove decisive in multi-day matches.

Five players could make their Test debuts in landmark fixture

One of the biggest talking points surrounding the squad announcement is the possibility of several new faces earning their maiden Test caps. Alice Capsey, Tilly Corteen-Coleman and Mady Villiers, all of whom have represented England in limited-overs cricket, are now in line for their first opportunities in the red-ball format. Their selection reflects England’s desire to expand their pool of multi-format talent and reward impressive performances across white-ball cricket.

Meanwhile, Grace Potts and Ellie Threlkeld could make their England debuts in any format should they be picked in the playing XI. Their inclusion offers fresh energy and highlights the selectors’ willingness to invest in emerging players ahead of an important chapter in England women’s cricket.

The potential introduction of multiple debutants also adds an intriguing dimension to the match, with several young players getting the chance to showcase their skills on one of cricket’s grandest stages. England’s most recent women’s Test outing came during the Women’s Ashes in January 2025, when they suffered defeat against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The upcoming encounter against India presents an opportunity to return to winning ways while embracing a significant moment in the sport’s history.

England squad for the one-off Test against India: Nat Sciver-Brunt (c), Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Bell, Maia Bouchier, Alice Capsey, Tilly Corteen-Coleman, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Filer, Amy Jones, Heather Knight, Emma Lamb, Grace Potts, Ellie Threlkeld, Mady Villiers and Issy Wong.
