Keke Palmer is officially making history at BET, and the news came as a total surprise.
Terrence J posted on Instagram Thursday. He and the BET team had surprised Palmer at the network’s offices with a major announcement. She’s been named to BET’s first-ever Board of Advisors, landing a founding spot in the inaugural class. That’s genuinely cool.
She also got word of a new billboard up in Times Square. In the middle of New York City. Her name, right there for everyone walking through Midtown to see.
Terrence J shared the moment on Instagram, writing, “We surprised @keke at the @bet offices! Congratulations on joining the first ever Board of Advisors and new Billboard in Times Square! New Behind the Image with KeKe dropping soon.”
The timing is no accident. Behind the Image with Keke, her upcoming show on BET, is set to drop soon. The board appointment and the billboard are landing right alongside the show launch. BET is clearly putting a lot of support behind Palmer heading into this next chapter.
Keke Palmer got her start in entertainment as a teenager. She broke through with Akeelah and the Bee back in 2006 and has been building from there. Film fans know her from Hustlers and Jordan Peele’s Nope. She’s also been a steady TV presence for years, with hosting credits and acting roles across major networks.
The BET Board of Advisors seat is a different kind of achievement. BET is one of the most recognized networks in Black entertainment, and this puts Palmer in a founding advisory role at the institutional level. That means real input into the network’s direction.
BET has been around since 1980 and has never had a formal advisory board until now. Palmer being among the first names attached to this inaugural class is a significant choice by the network.
Behind the Image with Keke doesn’t have an official premiere date yet. Terrence J’s post makes it clear things are moving fast, though. The board announcement gives the upcoming show an extra layer of excitement heading into launch.
Terrence J has been a fixture in entertainment media for years. He’s hosted BET events and worked across TV and digital content. He was a fitting choice to deliver a surprise this big.
More than twenty years into her career, Palmer is landing a founding seat on BET’s Board of Advisors. A new show is on the way, and her name lights up Times Square.
Big things are coming. And BET just made sure the whole world knows it.
