Vice President JD Vance recently made headlines when he appeared on The View earlier this month. Since then, viewers were surprised to see Behar and Vance’s interactions on the show, with Vance himself describing both him and her as “best friends.” Recently, Behar herself weighed in on the comment.

Joy Behar Weighed In On JD Vance’s Appearance On The View, & A Comment He Made Following It, During A Recent Podcast Appearance

On June 16, viewers saw JD Vance make an appearance on The View. At the time, he was promoting his memoir, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, which detailed his faith and conversion to Catholicism.

Vance is notably the third sitting vice president to sit on the show. He followed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Following his appearance on the show, Vance spoke with members of the press about negotiations with Iran. At the time, he discussed his appearance on the show, noting, “Just two days ago, I spent over an hour on The View.” He also joked, “Look, Joy Behar is way tougher than the Iranians, and she and I are best friends now…” This clip later appeared on The View.

During the time on his show, Behar could be seen acting very respectfully towards Vance, despite fans speculating that she would grill him on the spot. However, she recently addressed Vance’s “best friends” comment during an appearance on the Behind the Table podcast.

Speaking to host Brian Teta, Behar shared, “Our JD Vance interview is the gift that keeps on giving. He had teased, “He was at a press conference about Iran and said the two of you were best friends.”

Behar initially denied this, sharing that he only said that she was “harder to negotiate with than Iranians…” Teta chimed in, “…And now [you’re] best friends!” Behar responded, “Well, I don’t know about that.”

Behar Did Have Something Positive To Say About Vance Since The Show

The View co-host shared, “It’s funny that he wants to be friends with me. Why? I don’t approve of his positions. I definitely don’t approve of Donald Trump and his positions…”

Teta then noted that Behar was getting criticism for not being openly hostile with the vice president during his appearance on the show. She felt that this was how she should act as a host. As she explained, “I’m not openly hostile to anyone who is a guest on the show.”

Behar continued, “People talk about how the parties and the people in this country are so divisive. I think that I could help the situation, because I have a way about me.” She also paid something of a compliment toward Vance, noting, “I had a manager that described me this way: Joy will tell you go f**k yourself, and you say thank you. It’s my sense of humor. And I have to give it to [Vance], the guy used the joke. He used it as a joke. He has a sense of humor, which is a sign of something.”
