Madonna has always prided herself on being very into family. She has two biological children and four adopted ones. Yet, it appears that she and one of her girls had a serious rift that only music could heal. Keep reading for more details on what went down.
Madonna Loves Being A Mom & Icon
For years, Madonna was all about her music and building a brand. Then, she announced that she was expecting a baby with Carlos Leon. In 1996, she became a first-time mother to Lourdes Leon, and then she fell in love with filmmaker Guy Ritchie. They got married and welcomed a son, Rocco, in 2000, but sadly, the relationship fell apart. Yet, Madonna was not done being a mother, so she went on to adopt four more babies. She headed to Malawi, where she brought home David in 2006 and Mercy in 2009.
Following them, she welcomed twins Stella and Estere in 2017 to round out her family. Unfortunately, it seems that the singer and her firstborn have had a falling out. She was talking about music and a new song, and that was when it was revealed that there was some familial trouble:
“The song I wrote with my daughter, Lola. She approached me about writing a song together as a way to heal our relationship.”
The sixty-seven-year-old added that this made it clear that she needed to make the album. This was her clear sign that it had to be done, if only to heal what was broken. Now, she did not do a deep dive into what had gone wrong between her and Lourdes. However, Lourdes has been honest about the struggle of being around her mom. She noted that Madonna was very controlling, and that made her leave the moment she graduated high school:
“My mom is such a control freak, and she has controlled me my whole life. I needed to be completely independent from her as soon as I graduated high school.”
Moving On?
With this track, it appears that there is some hope for reconciliation between Madonna and Lourdes. They have worked together, and although it appears that control was a big problem, Lourdes turns 30 this year. She is an adult, and she has grown so much. However, she did admit that some of the things she did not care for regarding her mom rubbed off on her in the long run:
“She’s probably the hardest worker I’ve ever seen. I didn’t inherit that, unfortunately. I inherited her control issues, but not her work ethic.”
Are you shocked that Madonna and Lourdes had any struggles, but music saved them? Moreover, do you think control was the core problem? Let us know in the comments below.
