Google has silently added a new audio feature to Android 17,  bringing the Low Latency High-Definition Audio Codec (LHDC) to supported Pixel devices.

According to AndroidAuthority, Reddit user u/QuantumCatalyzt posted to the r/pixel_phones subreddit that Android 17 on their Pixel 9 Pro enabled LHDC codec support, allowing them to switch on Hi-Res audio on their OnePlus Buds.

If you want to enable LHDCv5, head to Settings > System > Developer Options > Bluetooth Audio Codec, and from there select LHDCv5 from the list of different Bluetooth audio codecs (should be SBC, AAC, and LHDCv5)

Once everything is set up, you will also need a high-quality audio source to really experience it, with Apple Music supporting Hi-Res Lossless audio up to 24-bit/96kHz, for example.

Previously, Savitech (the company behind LHDC) had mentioned that Android 17 would natively support the codec, and now that Android 17 is live, that appears to be the case.
