Team Canada won the silver medal on Saturday in a Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Series event in Poitiers, France on Saturday. The Canadian team comprised of Cassandra Brown of Vernon, British Columbia, Paige Crozon of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Katherine Plouffe of Edmonton, Alberta and Merissah Russell of Ottawa, Ontario.
Canada went through undefeated in Pool B action with a record of two wins and zero losses. On Friday, Canada defeated Hungary 21-6 and China 18-11. In Canada’s win over Hungary, Crozon led Canada with 10 points. She co-led Canada with four rebounds (tied with Plouffe). Russell led Canada with two key assists. In Canada’s win over China, Crozon and Brown led Canada with six points each, Brown led Canada with six rebounds, and Plouffe and Crozon led Canada with two key assists each.
In the quarterfinals on Saturday, Canada beat France 21-11. Russell led Canada with seven points, Crozon and Brown led Canada with three rebounds each, and Plouffe and Brown led Canada with two key assists each.
Canada then faced a second team based out of Canada, called Ottawa, in the semifinals, and won a tight match by a score of 17-16 in overtime. Canada then lost 20-19 to Australia in the gold medal game.
This was Canada’s second podium finish of the season. In May, Canada won gold in Shanghai.
