BTS posted two emojis on their official Instagram account Wednesday, and the speculation hasn’t stopped since. @bts.bighitofficial shared a Belgian flag and a waffle emoji with no caption and no follow-up from HYBE or BigHit Entertainment. The message is minimal. The implications might not be.
The geographic read is easy to make. Belgium is internationally famous for its waffles. Pairing the national flag with the country’s most iconic food is a fairly direct hint toward that location. Something Belgium-related appears to be coming. The group hasn’t said what.
Nearly 985,000 likes landed on the post. For an account of BTS’s size, that number is consistent with their typical reach. What’s notable is that nearly a million people engaged with a post containing nothing but two emoji characters. ARMY treats every official account upload as a potential announcement, and this one has their full attention.
The choice of Belgium is also worth noting on its own. Major European tour stops for acts of BTS’s size typically run through London, Paris, Berlin, and Amsterdam. Belgium doesn’t always make that list. Singling out Belgium specifically suggests a reason beyond a routine tour routing decision. A dedicated Belgian date, a Belgian partner, or a Belgium-anchored event would be a departure from the expected path.
Belgium also hosts some of Europe’s larger summer music festivals. A July tease that lines up with festival season makes that scenario worth considering. A standalone arena show and a festival slot are both on the table.
The leading theories point in a few directions. A Belgian concert announcement is the most obvious read. Brussels and Antwerp both have large venues capable of handling a BTS production. A collaboration announcement is also a possibility. That one is harder to guess without more context.
BTS formed under BigHit Entertainment, now part of HYBE.
