Tom Brady Rings in America’s Birthday with Sports, Fireworks, and Family

Tom Brady kept it simple for Independence Day. The seven-time Super Bowl champion posted a brief message on Instagram on Saturday. He wished the country a happy birthday and encouraged followers to watch sports, shoot fireworks, and spend time with family over the holiday weekend.

Brady’s caption: “Happy Birthday America. Watch some sports, shoot some fireworks, and hug your family this weekend!” He added a P.S. asking followers to drop their own favorite holiday moments in the comments. He noted the message was “off the top of the head.”

Brady retired from the NFL in February 2023 after 23 seasons. It took him two tries to get there. He first announced his retirement in February 2022, then reversed course 40 days later and returned to Tampa Bay for one final season. His second retirement announcement held. The career numbers are staggering. Seven Super Bowl championships. Five Super Bowl MVP awards. More career passing yards than any other quarterback in league history.

Retiring didn’t take him away from the sport. Brady holds a minority ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders. He also joined Fox Sports as a game analyst in 2024 under a long-term broadcast deal. The role put him in the booth for regular season and playoff games. The transition to broadcasting has kept him in the weekly football conversation without putting him back on a field.

On social media, Brady tends to show up with purpose but not excess. He’s not running a content machine. He’ll post something topical and then go quiet for a while. The Fourth of July message fits that pattern. Brady left out any personal details. No mention of where he was or who he was with. He kept the focus on the holiday itself.

The P.S. is worth noting. Asking his audience to share their own holiday moments signals some actual interest in what people are doing. That’s different from a standard celebrity holiday caption. Most of those are really just about reinforcing the person’s own image. The P.S. keeps the post from feeling like a billboard.

Brady turns 49 in August. Three years out of the NFL, he’s built a second career in broadcasting and business. He’s not trying to stay relevant by oversharing. He shows up, says something real, and keeps it moving. He was one of the most scrutinized athletes in American sports for more than two decades. A quieter social media approach seems like the right adjustment.

Ninety-one thousand likes for a short Independence Day greeting is a solid return. Brady doesn’t have to work hard to generate interest. The Saturday post was about as low-key and genuine as celebrity social media gets. A short note, a couple of emojis, and a suggestion to put the phone down and spend time with people.

Solid advice for a July 4th weekend.
