The grandest stage in women’s cricket witnessed a familiar sight of absolute dominance as Australia Women locked horns with England Women in the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on July 5, 2026. A packed, roaring crowd at Lord’s in London set the perfect backdrop for this blockbuster clash.

With both teams storming into the summit clash undefeated, expectations were sky-high. However, the multi-time champions from Down Under showcased why they remain the gold standard of world cricket, handling the high-stakes pressure flawlessly to silence the home crowd and secure yet another global crown.

Australia defeated England to secure record seventh Women’s T20 World Cup

Winning the toss under grey London skies, Australian captain Sophie Molineux made the tactical call to bowl first. The decision reaped immediate rewards as Australia’s disciplined bowling unit rattled the host nation early. Dangerous England openers Amy Jones (6 off 7 balls) and Danni Wyatt-Hodge (8 off 9 balls) were dismissed within the powerplay, leaving the hosts reeling at 39/2.

Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt anchor-dropped to reconstruct the innings, playing a resilient, unbeaten knock of 58 off 53 deliveries, laced with 5 boundaries. She found an aggressive partner in Alice Capsey (23 off 20 balls) and later in Freya Kemp, who provided late-innings fireworks with a blistering 44* off just 28 balls. Kemp’s cameo pushed England to a competitive total of 150/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Australia’s bowling responsibilities were cleanly shared, with Kim Garth (1/20), Lucy Hamilton (1/19), Sophie Molineux (1/32), and Annabel Sutherland (1/34) snatching a wicket apiece.

Chasing 151 for glory, Australia faced an early hiccup when young opener Georgia Voll was cleaned up by Lauren Bell for 9. However, any hopes of an English fightback were quickly extinguished by a masterclass second-wicket partnership. The veteran Beth Mooney and the fearless Phoebe Litchfield put on a spectacular 100-run stand. Litchfield dynamic took the game away from England, smashing 48 off 35 balls, including 6 fours and 2 towering sixes, before falling to Charlie Dean.

Mooney anchored the chase expertly, scoring a sublime 64 off 49 balls with 10 elegant boundaries. By the time Sophie Ecclestone trapped Mooney leg-before, the damage was entirely done. Ellyse Perry (13*) and Ashleigh Gardner (3*) calmly steered the ship across the finish line. Australia comfortably scaled the target, reaching 153/3 in just 17.1 overs to seal a comprehensive 7-wicket victory with 17 balls to spare.
