Popular Today Hosts MIA In Unexplained Absences, Fans Worried
Talk show hosts typically take certain days off. But it’s rare for multiple hosts to be absent on the same day. The View had to make do with just three hosts earlier this week when the other three were stranded due to bad weather over the holiday weekend.
Popular Today host Savannah Guthrie only returned to the show in April after taking two months off amid a family emergency. Her mother, 84, went missing from her home in Arizona. She still hasn’t been found, but Savannah Guthrie returned to work. However, recent developments in her mother’s disappearance sparked speculation that Savannah could take another break from the Today Show at any time.
Sheinelle Jones joined Craig Melvin for the first two hours on Wednesday, July 8. Craig Melvin briefly addressed Savannah Guthrie’s absence by saying she was off for the day. He didn’t share why.
Al Roker was nowhere to be found later in the episode when it was time for the weather forecast. Weekend meteorologist Angie Lassman stepped in for him. Carson Daly and Dylan Dreyer were also absent from Wednesday’s broadcast without explanation.

Al Roker’s Fill-In Suffered Serious Injury
Savannah Guthrie, Dylan Dreyer, and Carson Daly’s absences remain unexplained. However, Al Roker was expected to be off for the entire week. The beloved weatherman is on vacation, spending time with his family. Angie Lassman filled in for him despite a painful injury that left her unable to walk unassisted.
“We’ve got another fantastic crowd joining us here on the plaza, along with Angie Lassman and Angie’s new friend: her scooter,” Craig Melvin joked on Wednesday’s episode when the hosts all gathered outdoors at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. He encouraged her to explain her injury.
Angie Lassman tore her Achilles while playing tennis in May and needed emergency surgery. “I did rupture my Achilles on Memorial Day. It wasn’t the start of summer that I really wanted, but I’m making the most of it. I’m a little immobile right now, and that’s making me stir crazy,” she said on Weekend Today at the time.
She’s a little more mobile now with the help of a walking boot and mobility scooter. Jenna Bush Hager was impressed that Angie Lassman was wearing a heel on her non-injured foot. The meteorologist assured viewers that she was doing well and on the mend.
