Actor Keanu Reeves has shed some insight on his upcoming thriller Shiver, centred on a time loop similar to Happy Death Day 2U, set to be directed by Terminator: Dark Fate’s Tim Miller. It’s set to feature additional cast members Callie Cooke, Stefan Kapičić, Steven Waddington, Nicholas Duvernay, Abraham Popoola, Anastasia Safonov, and Bobby Holland Hanton.
Splinter screenwriter Ian Shorr has penned the script with Warner Bros handling production. Filming has reportedly wrapped in the Dominican Republic.
Reportedly borrowing from The Shallows and Edge of Tomorrow, Reeves’ next film will focus on a “smuggler in the middle of a deadly double-cross while on a job in the Caribbean Sea, surrounded by bodies, hostile mercenaries, and bloodthirsty sharks, the man finds himself in a time loop and scrambling to break the cycle.”
In a recent interview, Reeves affirmed that the film can be summarised as: “Sharks. Time machine. Groundhog Day.”
Groundhog Day is the 1993 classic by director Harold Ramis and writer Danny Rubin, starring Bill Murray as a cynical weatherman who becomes trapped in a time loop after covering Groundhog Day in Pennsylvania, forcing him to repeat 2nd February. The film also stars Andie MacDowell, Chris Elliott, Stephen Tobolowsky, Brian Doyle-Murray, Marita Geraghty, Angela Paton, Rick Ducommun, Rick Overton, and Robin Duke.
Reeves’ thriller was first announced in late 2025, and the actor is also preparing for John Wick 5, despite the fourth film previously being planned as the conclusion. “We can’t wait for audiences to see where the journey takes us next,” Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson announced, with Thunder Road producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee adding, “It’s so important to get this story right and give John’s story the proper next step. It’s exciting to take the first step on that road.”
Shivers is set to be released 13th August, 2027.
