This is Poly immediately drew reality TV fans in. One viewer took to Reddit to share a surprising connection between the WeTV cast and a famous cult.
- “I randomly started watching this show yesterday and the guy Poetic looked crazy familiar. It was driving me crazy and it clicked. I watched a documentary on the cult of Yahweh Ben Yahweh and holy smokes, they have cast cult members on this show!
The viewer went on to say it was “irresponsible” of We TV to highlight Yahweh Poetic amid the Yahweh Ben Yahweh cult’s “sordid” past. The “Yahweh Nation” emerged as a religious movement in Florida in 1979. The movement’s leader, Yahweh Ben Yahweh, believed that Black people were the true descendants of Israel and that God should be called “Yahweh.”
Yahweh Ben Yahweh reportedly had a strong hold on his followers, convincing them to change their names to Hebrew names and gave them strict rules. The cult leader allegedly ordered multiple killings of his enemies. He went to prison in 1992 on conspiracy charges involving a racketeering case.
