President Trump’s is halfway through his second term. However, all eyes are on the 2028 election, for wildly different reasons. Republicans want to retain the White House, while Democrats search for the winning candidate to regain control. The View hosts slammed Sara Haines over her shocking prediction for the 2028 election. Keep reading to find out what she said that sparked the backlash.
President Trump Ineligible For 3rd Term
President Trump easily won the 2024 election over Vice President Kamala Harris. Despite his victory, he’s still fighting to prove election fraud cost him the 2020 election. Trump has made several jokes at rallies about entering the 2028 race for a third term.
However, the Constitution limits presidents to two terms. The founding document was amended in 1951 in response to Franklin D. Roosevelt serving four terms in office. Traditionally, Vice President Vance would be the obvious choice as the Republican nominee in 2028. However, Trump has yet to throw his support behind his VP, and the party is keeping its options open.
The View Hosts Slam Sara Haines Over 2028 Election Claims
Sara Haines identifies as a conservative Independent. While she’s voted Democrat most of the time, she could easily vote for the right Republican candidate. Even though President Trump’s term isn’t over, there’s been a lot of chatter about the 2028 election. There are several emerging candidates on both sides.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s name has come up several times as a possible candidate. A reporter recently asked her to comment on the rumors. Her only response was that she hoped JD Vance was the Republican nominee. The View hosts discussed her possible candidacy on Friday’s show.
Other names mentioned as possible candidates include California Governor Gavin Newsom, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Bernie Sanders previously ran in 2016 and 2020 but lost in the primary elections.
Joy Behar, 83, was against Bernie Sanders running again. “He’s the same age as me and I would not run for president. I don’t have the energy to do such a job like that,” she said. Alyssa Farah Griffin suggested that Kamala Harris is the most likely Democratic candidate in 2028.
Joy Behar didn’t agree with that but asked, “Are they gonna vote for a gay guy?” Secretary Pete Buttigieg is openly gay. Sara Haines said that the country won’t vote based on identity politics. I think the identity reduces the charisma of the character, the person in front of us,” she said. Her comment prompted Joy Behar, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Sunny Hostin to say she doesn’t live “in reality.”
“I wish this country, after 250 years, was beyond identity, but we are not, and we need to be realistic,” Sunny Hostin added. Sara Haines has made several controversial comments in recent months that received immediate pushback from her colleagues. Tell us in the comments if you agree with her that identity politics won’t play a role in the 2028 election.
