Craig Melvin Says He Was ‘Glad’ Today Co-Hosts Were Gone
Summer is the time when many people go on vacation. Even morning news hosts need time away. Several hosts of the Today Show were absent throughout the month of July. Al Roker missed an entire week. Saturday morning meteorologist Angie Lassman filled in for him since Dylan Dreyer was also off.
Dylan Dreyer missed several days to attend her niece’s wedding in Oregon. Laura Jarrett filled in for her as co-host of the show’s fourth hour. During a moment of on-screen banter, Craig Melvin joked that he was “glad” that Dylan Dreyer and Al Roker weren’t there. His comments were all in good fun. Craig Melvin and Al have a unique relationship, always taking jabs at each other.
Al Roker Shares Emotional Reason He Went MIA
“We missed you,” Laura Jarrett told Al Roker when he returned to work on Monday, July 13. “You had a pretty good weekend, too,” Craig Melvin said. Al Roker responded by sharing the emotional reason he was MIA.
“I got back from visiting my daughter, who just got married, from Paris. We just hung out,” the longtime Today Show weatherman shared. Laura Jarrett jokingly asked if he crashed the honeymoon, but Al Roker said no.
Al Roker’s daughter, Leila, tied the knot with Sylvain Gricourt in May in two separate ceremonies in Paris and New Jersey. Leila is one of two children Al Roker had with his wife, Deborah Roberts. He has another daughter, Courtney, with his late ex-wife. Courtney had a baby in 2023, making Al Roker a first-time grandfather, a role he loves.
His granddaughter, Sky, had a major role in Leila’s wedding as flower girl but had to be carried down the aisle because she was sick. Al Roker’s wife, Deborah Roberts, shared a snapshot from their time in Paris.
“Summer meet ups are especially sweet…” she wrote on Instagram. The photo included Al, their daughter Leila, and their longtime friend, actress Sheryl Lee Ralph. While Today Show fans missed Al Roker, they took to the comments to wish him well during his time with his family in Paris.
