Before joining The View, Sunny Hostin was a federal prosecutor who cracked down on criminals. However, she took a different tone when it was her own son who ran into trouble with the law. The talk show host reportedly used her fame to get her son out of trouble. Keep reading for all the details.
The View Host Sunny Hostin Uses Fame To Get Son Out Of Trouble With NYPD
Several popular celebrities have been caught on camera using their fame to get out of legal trouble. Reese Witherspoon famously asked a cop if they knew who she was during a traffic stop in 2013. Shia LaBeouf and Amanda Bynes posed similar questions during run-ins with the police. The View host Sunny Hostin reportedly used her fame on her son’s behalf.
The former lawyer shares two children, Gabriel, 24, and Paloma, 20, with her husband, orthopedic surgeon Emmanuel Hostin. Gabriel was ticketed for a trespassing violation in June. He was caught jogging along railroad tracks in New Rochelle, New York, that had “no trespassing” signs.
According to the New York Post, Sunny Hostin spoke to the officers on the phone and asked if they knew who she was. “They were just talking to the kid because he was trespassing, but his mother made it an issue. She wanted to know why he was stopped and why did they talk to him,” a source told the outlet.

Her Son Accepted To Ivy League College
Gabriel Hostin is scheduled to appear in court on July 31, but his mother wrote to the DA on his behalf to get the charges dismissed. Sunny Hostin claimed it was an “honest mistake.” The View host is representing her son in court.
“My client is a 2025 Harvard University graduate with no criminal history or prior contact with the criminal justice system. He is an avid runner and former Junior Olympian track athlete who was in the area training,” she wrote in the letter obtained by TMZ. Sunny Hostin claimed that the “no trespassing” sign wasn’t visible at the time her son entered the area.
Her son did graduate from Harvard last year. But he’s not finished with his education. Sunny Hostin proudly posted on Instagram over the weekend that her son was accepted to Columbia University. The news came just days before reports of his legal troubles hit the press. According to The View host, her son is going into medical school.
Even though the trespassing charge was a misdemeanor, any criminal record could hurt Gabriel Hostin’s college admissions and future goals. Tell us in the comments if you think Sunny Hostin was wrong to use her fame to keep her son out of trouble.
