The Giants are clear sellers heading into the trade deadline, and contenders are sending scouts to check out the club’s potential trade chips. Outfielder Heliot Ramos and utilityman Casey Schmitt are among the bats being scouted by opposing teams, per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Slusser mentions the Phillies and Mariners as teams with representatives in attendance for Monday’s matchup against the Royals.

Ramos did his part, launching a solo home run off right-hander Michael Wacha. He boosted his OPS to .883 in 18 games since returning from a quad strain. The 26-year-old Ramos has been limited to 62 games this season, but he’s performed well when healthy. The outfielder has a solid 112 wRC+ with nine home runs in 252 plate appearances. Ramos has experience at all three outfield spots, though he’s best-suited for the corners.

Parting with Ramos isn’t a foregone conclusion, as he won’t reach arbitration until next season. He’s been an above-average hitter since emerging as a full-time player in 2024. Ramos was miserable in center field two years ago (-15 Defensive Runs Saved) and hasn’t played there since then. He’s been subpar in left field over the past two seasons (-9 DRS), while grading out as a positive defender in right field (3 DRS).

It’s no surprise Philadelphia and Seattle are monitoring the Giants’ offensive pieces. The Phillies have struggled to find production in the outfield, with free agent signing Adolis Garcia struggling and then getting hurt. Rookie Justin Crawford has scuffled on both sides of the ball. The Mariners have two lefties offering solid production in right field between Luke Raley and Dominic Canzone. The latter has been afforded everyday work recently, though that could have more to do with platoon mate Victor Robles‘ poor performance. Ramos would be a clear upgrade in the right field/DH mix.

Schmitt would be a strong fit for any team given his defensive versatility and breakthrough offensive performance. Like Ramos, he’ll be difficult to acquire. The 27-year-old still has three years of team control remaining. Schmitt has been one of the lone bright spots for a disappointing San Francisco roster. He’s slashed .275/.304/.482 while bouncing around the diamond. Schmitt entered the year with 23 career home runs over parts of three seasons. He’s already hit 19 in 2026, to go with a career-best nine stolen bases.

The price for Ramos or Schmitt might include taking on one of the Giants’ underwater contracts.  Willy Adames, Matt Chapman, and Rafael Devers are each owed significant money for the rest of the decade. In the cases of Adames and Devers, they’ll be paid more than $30MM a year into the 2030s. Parting with integral pieces of the lineup for the sake of undoing financial missteps isn’t ideal, which puts president of baseball operations Buster Posey in a tricky position.
