Former CFL fullback Spencer Moore has been sentenced to a conditional discharge and 15 months’ probation after an incident of intimate partner violence.
According to court documents obtained by 3DownNation, Moore was arrested by Ontario Provincial Police on June 3, 2025, and charged with assault against an intimate partner on that same date under Section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was summarily sentenced in Haldimand County Court on July 2, 2026.
Under the terms of the conditional discharge, the assault will appear on Moore’s criminal record for a period of three years before being expunged. The discharge can be revoked and a conviction made if he does not meet the conditions of his probation.
Moore faced five additional charges at the time of his arrest, all of which were subsequently withdrawn during court proceedings. Those included three more counts of assault against the same complainant, stemming from separate alleged incidents on or about May 16, 2025, on or between September 1 and 20, 2024, and on or about January 9, 2023. He was also accused of uttering threats to damage the complainant’s cellphone on the date of his arrest, as well as willfully damaging walls and doors at a property near Caledonia, Ont. during a period between January 1, 2020, and September 20, 2024, the total value of which amounted to less than $5,000. None of those charges were proven in court.
Neither Moore nor his legal representative responded to 3DownNation‘s request for comment.
The 35-year-old played eight seasons in the CFL, splitting his career between the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2013-2018) and the Montreal Alouettes (2019-2021). In 104 career games, Moore recorded 52 special teams tackles and forced two fumbles. He was also a contributor in the passing game, catching 35 passes for 285 yards.
Moore was originally selected in the fifth round of the 2013 CFL Draft by Saskatchewan and won a Grey Cup with the team in his rookie season, though he did not dress for the game. The six-foot-four, 230-pound native of Hamilton, Ont., attended McMaster University and was part of the school’s Vanier Cup victory in 2011.
Following his retirement from professional football in 2021, Moore joined the Hamilton Fire Department. He was a member of the flag football team that won gold at the 2025 World Police & Fire Games.
