The Spanish football calendar is set for the 2026/27 season. La Liga has released its full fixture list, while the schedules for all the major European and domestic cup competitions have been laid out. Here are the dates to look out for over the coming 12 months.

    2026-2027 Spanish football dates

Weekend of 15th/16th August 2026 – La Liga & Segunda Division begin

The 2026/27 Spanish football season kicks off on Friday 14th August in relatively underwhelming fashion with Real Sociedad B at home against Castellon in the Segunda Division. La Liga gets going the following day with Alaves-Getafe and Sevilla-Rayo Vallecano the opening games.

It’ll be a slightly strange start to the campaign, with Barcelona and Real Madrid not playing their first matches until the following weekend as a result of the World Cup commitments of some of their players. Atletico Madrid’s first match is at home to newly-promoted Malaga on Wednesday 19th August.

    Weekend of 29th/30th August 2026 – Liga F starts

16 clubs will again take part in Liga F, which kicks off on the last weekend of August. Reigning champions Barcelona start at home to Tenerife.

8th-10th September 2026 – League phase of the Champions League commences

The main stage of the 2026/27 Champions League gets going in September. Five Spanish clubs will be involved in the league phase. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Villarreal are back, while Real Betis have qualified for Europe’s elite competition for the first time in 21 years.

The Champions League follows the same format as the past two seasons. Each club will play eight league-stage fixtures, with the top eight clubs in the standings securing direct entry into the round of 16.

16th-17th September 2026 – League phase of the Europa League commences

The Europa League also follows the same basic format for the 2026/27 campaign. Spain’s participants are Celta Vigo and Copa del Rey winners Real Sociedad. Both sides will directly enter the league phase, which also includes the likes of Juventus, Milan and Marseille.

26th September – 6th October 2026 – Spain play four Nations League matches in an extended international break

In a big change to the 2026/27 European football calendar, there will only be two international breaks in the autumn. However, the first will take place over an extra week.

That means recently crowned world champions Spain will play four Nations League fixtures across 11 days, the first of which is against England at Wembley on Saturday 26th September.

Weekend of 24th/25th October 2026 – El Clasico at Camp Nou

Followers of Real Madrid and Barcelona will already have the weekend of 24th/25th October pencilled in their diaries. The first Clasico of the campaign will take place at Camp Nou.

Barca have won six of their seven meetings with Los Blancos under Hansi Flick’s guidance. The first clash of the 2026/27 season will see Jose Mourinho take charge of Real Madrid in the fixture for the first time in 13 years.

    15th-17th December 2026 – Copa del Rey 3rd round

spanish football schedule - copa del rey

The Copa del Rey commences in the autumn, with the Supercopa participants not entering until the third-round stage in the middle of December.

By that point there will be 32 clubs left in the competition, which will be whittled down to just four by the middle of January, when the quarter-finals take place.

27th-28th January 2027 – League phases of the Champions & Europa League conclude

The last week of January will see the conclusion of the initial phase in the Champions League and the Europa League. Last season, Barcelona were the only Spanish club to finish in the UCL’s top eight. Teams that rank between ninth and 24th will enter the play-off round.

    2nd-7th February 2027 – Spanish Supercopa

In a switch to this season’s Spanish football schedule, the Supercopa has been moved from its usual slot in early January to the first week of February. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad are the participants.

There is also expected to be a different venue. Saudi Arabia is hosting the AFC Asian Cup around the same time, so the Supercopa is likely to move elsewhere this year. Qatar, China and the United States have been touted as potential hosts.

16th-18th February 2027 – Champions, Europa & Conference League knockout stages commence

The play-off round in the three major European competitions takes place over two legs in February. A number of Spanish clubs may have two-legged ties to negotiate if they want to reach the round of 16.

Celta and Real Sociedad will be hoping to reach the latter rounds of the Europa League, while Getafe are this season’s Spanish Conference League participants.

24th April 2027 – Copa del Rey final in Seville

The Copa del Rey final is expected to take place on Saturday 24th April 2027 at La Cartuja in Seville. La Real defeated Atleti on penalties in last season’s final of a competition that has served up five different winners in the past five years.

Weekend of 8th/9th May 2027 – El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu

El Clasico - Real Madrid vs Barcelona

The second Clasico has the potential to be a hugely important one if the title race is close. It takes place at the Santiago Bernabeu on matchday 35 of La Liga 2026/27.

The clubs also met on matchday 35 last season. For the first time in history, the title was clinched in El Clasico itself, as Barcelona beat Real Madrid 2-0 at Camp Nou.

    Weekend of 22nd/23rd May 2027 – Liga F concludes

Liga F concludes in May, with Barcelona Femeni the red-hot favourites to defend the title they’ve won in each of the past seven seasons. Their final game is against Deportivo Abanca, while Real Madrid host Alaves on the last weekend.

26th May 2027 – Europa League final in Frankfurt

As has been the way in recent years, the Europa League is again the first of the three major men’s European finals. Frankfurt’s Waldstadion is the venue for this season’s showpiece.

Neither Celta nor Real Sociedad have previously reached a European final, although both have made it to semi-finals in the past.

28th-30th May 2027 – Women’s Champions League final in Warsaw

Warsaw hosts this season’s Women’s Champions League final. Barcelona are hoping to feature in the fixture for the seventh season running. They’ve won four of the previous six editions.

Real Madrid and Real Sociedad are the other Spanish participants in this season’s competition.

Weekend of 29th/30th May 2027 – La Liga final matchday

La Liga concludes on the final weekend of May. With no major international competitions in the summer of 2027, it ends slightly later than usual.

Barca visit Getafe, while Real Madrid host Deportivo La Coruña in their final fixtures. Real Betis-Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad-Villarreal are other standout matchday 38 encounters, while a host of teams could still be battling against relegation.

2nd June 2027 – Conference League final in Istanbul

Having hosted last season’s Europa League final, the Besiktas Stadium in Istanbul will be the setting for the Conference League showpiece in 2027.

Getafe are bidding to emulate Rayo Vallecano, who made it all the way to the final last season, before losing 1-0 to Crystal Palace.

5th June 2027 – Champions League final in Madrid

spanish football calendar 2026 - 27 key dates

The Estadio Metropolitano hosts the Champions League final for the second time in 2027. Having previously staged the 2019 edition between Liverpool and Tottenham, Atletico Madrid’s stadium will be used again.

Followers of Los Rojiblancos will be dreaming of a hometown final, after they watched their team reach the last four last season. Diego Simeone’s side haven’t made it past the semi-finals since 2016.

Weekend of 5th/6th June 2027 – Segunda Division final matchday

The Segunda Division concludes a week after La Liga. By that point the first two promoted clubs will be known, while the sides ranked between third and sixth will enter the play-offs.

Real Oviedo, Mallorca and Girona are all bidding to secure a return to the top flight at the first attempt, following their relegations last term.

    9th-13th June 2027 – Nations League finals

Spain have reached the final of the past three editions of the Nations League. The newly crowned world champions will be strong contenders again.

To reach the finals, they first need to advance from a group that features England, Croatia and Czechia, before triumphing in a two-legged quarter-final in March.

    20th June 2027 – Segunda Division play-off final 2nd leg

The Spanish domestic season formally ends on Sunday 20th June with the second leg of the Segunda Division play-off final. Malaga beat Almeria 2-1 to clinch promotion at the end of the 2025/26 season.

    24th June – 25th July 2027 – FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil

It could be another golden summer for Spain, with the women’s team hoping to defend their World Cup title in Brazil. La Roja have already qualified for the tournament.

Sonia Bermudez’s team will be tough to beat, with the likes of England and the United States expected to be their main challengers.
