House of the Dragon star Matthew Needham has officially joined the cast of Batman: Caped Crusader, taking on the role of the Joker in the animated series’ second season.
Batman: Caped Crusader explores Bruce Wayne’s early years as Gotham City’s masked vigilante. The series comes from executive producers J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, and Bruce Timm, alongside James Tucker, Geoffrey Thorne, Sarah Geismer, Rachel Rusch Rich, and Sam Register.
The casting announcement came during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic Con, where Needham appeared alongside Batman voice actor Hamish Linklater, Harley Quinn star Jamie Chung, and executive producers Tucker and Thorne. Fans attending the panel also enjoyed an early screening of the Season 2 premiere.
The Joker’s arrival has been highly anticipated since the villain was teased in the closing moments of Season 1. While John DiMaggio, who voices Detective Harvey Bullock, provided the Joker’s brief appearance in the finale, Needham will take over going forward.
Season 2 will consist of 10 episodes and premieres on Prime Video on 31 July. The voice cast also includes Eric Morgan Stuart, Michelle C. Bonilla, Krystal Joy Brown, Jason Watkins, Gary Anthony Williams, Ronan Raftery, Wunmi Mosaku, Laraine Newman, Grey DeLisle, Zach Hoffman, William Salyers, Josh Brener, Bumper Robinson, Cedric Yarbrough, Tom Kenny, Roger Craig Smith, Blythe Melin, Fryda Wolff, Kevin Michael Richardson, Juliet Donenfeld, and Robin Atkin Downes.
