BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has categorically rejected rumours suggesting Rohit Sharma is considering retirement from international cricket. Speaking to reporters in Agra during the inauguration of the mini auction for the fourth season of the UP T20 League, Shukla insisted there was no discussion within the board regarding the 39-year-old stepping away from the game.
“Rohit Sharma is a part of our team and is continuing to play. The things being circulated in the media and on social media have no meaning. As of now, there is no question of his retirement,” Shukla said.
His comments come after widespread speculation surrounded Rohit’s future during India’s ODI series against England. Questions over his place in the team grew louder after the experienced opener endured a prolonged lean run with the bat, leading to reports that the third ODI at Lord’s could mark his farewell appearance in Indian colours. However, Rohit silenced the rumours in the best possible fashion by producing one of the finest knocks of his ODI career.

Facing mounting pressure, Rohit delivered a captain’s innings at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. “Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the decision on who stays in the team and who does not rests with the selectors. The Indian team is performing well and winning matches, so there is no need for any changes at present,” Shukla added.
