Not everyone can be trusted these days, especially around The Today Show. After a terrifying security breach and Savannah Guthrie’s missing mom, the show is taking extra precautions when it comes to security. Keep reading to find out what happened and what they are doing about it.
Security Breach On Set
Earlier this week, Today faced something very scary. As previously reported, there was an intruder on set. Apparently, a crazed man came onto set asking for Al Roker. However, on his journey, he confronted Craig Melvin. When he saw Craig, he yelled some racial slurs at him. After that, the intruder was arrested.
“You may have heard that, unfortunately, an intruder made his way into an unauthorized area here at Studio 1A. Thankfully, he was apprehended quickly; he was placed under arrest, we are cooperating fully with NYPD as they investigate the matter, and we are just very happy that everyone is safe.”
This was a lot for Craig to handle, understandably so. Not only was an intruder on set, but Savannah Guthrie’s mom went missing earlier this year. Despite her family looking for her for months, there’s still no sign of her return. These two situations are enough to freak someone out and scare them into taking a break from work. Now, Craig will be out for a while. However, Today isn’t taking things lightly.
Changing Security At ‘Today”
Needless to say, there are going to be some changes to keep the set and the staff safe. According to Page Six, an email was sent with new rules that will be effective immediately.
“We wanted to reach out with an important update regarding studio access for ‘Today’ interviews. In light of the recent events last week, we are implementing stricter security protocols effective immediately,” the email reads.
The new rules say that only two people are allowed on set for every one guest they have. And, there are no exceptions to this new rule. So, no matter who someone is in relation to the guest, there can only be two people with them.
“Moving forward, there will be a maximum of two (2) people in the studio per guest,” the email says. “This includes anyone accompanying the guest — PR representatives, hair/makeup, social media, photographers, stylists, studio representatives, or any other support personnel. We’ll defer to you on who those two individuals should be, but there will be no exceptions or additional personnel permitted in the studio during the interview.”
Hopefully this makes a difference and staff can feel safer at work from now on.
