A24 has dropped the second trailer for Adam Wingard’s violent action thriller, Onslaught.
The synopsis of the film is as follows: “When a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers break loose in the desert, a badass Army sniper must unleash hell to protect her young daughter.”
The film stars Adria Arjona, Dan Stevens, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, Alex Pereira, Drew Starkey, and Rebecca Hall.
It is directed by American filmmaker Adam Wingard, best known for his 2014 film The Guest and his 2011 horror flick You’re Next. Onslaught, on the other hand, marks the director’s departure from franchise filmmaking, as he has spent most of this decade making Godzilla vs Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
At San Diego Comic Con recently, Wingard said that the film is “a spiritual sequel” to his film The Guest, adding that it “lives in the same universe.” It takes place in the same town as his 2014 film.
Dan Stevens is not playing the American maniac he was in that film, though; here he is playing a foot-licking scientist responsible for unleashing the super-soldiers into the desert. Also at San Diego Comic Con, Rebecca Hall said that her character will act as Stevens’ “dominatrix handler”.
Two-time UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Alex Pereira, will be taking up the role as the lead of these super soldiers, known as The Butcher. In the trailer, they are described as the “human equivalent of a heat-seeking missile.”
The film was penned by Wingard’s long-time collaborator, Simon Barrett.
Onslaught will release in US cinemas on September 4th; a UK release date is TBC.
