The Giants announced that they have claimed infielder Shay Whitcomb off waivers from the Astros. Houston designated him for assignment earlier this week. To open a 40-man spot for this claim, San Francisco transferred right-hander Trevor McDonald to the 60-day injured list. McDonald required Tommy John surgery earlier this summer and will miss the remainder of the season.
