The Bachelorette has gotten a very bad reputation, especially with the last season being canned just a week before airing. Now, one of the show’s stars is under fire for distasteful comments that their wife made regarding a serious disorder. So, what did they say, and how bad was the backlash? Bachelorette Franchise Is Going Under
Although not all Bachelor couples end in marriage, The Bachelorette spinoff has found itself in hot water. Jenn Tran, who came from Joey Graziadei’s season, ended up becoming the lead. Unfortunately, her season was met with much controversy, and she was broken up with during the live finale. Fortunately, as a last-minute addition to Dancing with the Stars, she showed how strong she was. She even found romance with her pro partner, Sasha Farber, although that ended. Then, Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Taylor Frankie Paul was cast as the lead.
However, her season was pulled the week before due to domestic violence issues. Now, another Bachelorette star is under fire due to controversial comments from her wife. Gabby Windey was a contestant on The Bachelor and then helmed her own season. She then married comedian Robby Hoffman, who appeared on Call Her Daddy. Robby started talking about gluten intolerance and how it can help celiac disease. To that, she said:
“No, it can’t be done. It can’t be done.”
It appeared that Robby was calling out gluten intolerance, those with celiac disease, and how people manage it. She also noted that she felt like celiac disease was a trend, just like the peanut allergy of her youth:
“Everybody is suddenly celiac.”
Podcast host Alex Cooper agreed and added that being intolerant to gluten feels like it just came on. Immediately, Robby Hoffman was slammed by so many who suffer from the autoimmune disorder and struggle to manage it daily. Approximately 3 million Americans are attempting to deal with celiac disease, so even though it is 1%, it is still extremely hard.
Completely Tone Deaf
After fans heard what Robby Hoffman said on Call Her Daddy, they were shocked by The Bachelorette star’s wife. They could not believe how insensitive and tone deaf she could be and immediately called her out:
- I really liked Robby Hoffman but imma need her to educate herself on celiac disease before she says she wants to rub bread on people with ‘gluten allergy.’
- Happy celiac awareness month y’all. Except for, I guess, the awareness part. I don’t eat gluten because I have an autoimmune disease and like not dying of colon cancer. Not because it’s trendy or cool.
- Really love the part where Robby Hoffman says the disease destroying my intestinal lining isn’t real
- I almost died from undiagnosed celiac. Needed 8 emergency blood transfusions. I lost my business, because I’m a pastry chef and baking was my whole life. No, it’s not fake or a joke. It’s life or death.
