Star Wars is one of those franchises that just keeps on giving. The Ninth Jedi is only the newest addition to many Star Wars stories that have recently been made into movies or TV shows. In this newest iteration of the Star Wars saga, the story follows Lah Kara (Kimiko Glenn), a young padawan and the daughter of a sabersmith, as she embarks on a journey to find her father, Lah Zhima (Simu Liu). In her journey, she is joined by Margrave Juro (Andrew Kishino), a Jedi who wants to restore order in order to fight Nawaam (Young Mazino) and prevent him from gaining control of the galaxy.

The design and cinematography are excellent in this show, making it stand out amongst the many Star Wars–related products that have come out in recent years. Each realm and planet that the main character visits has a unique look, making the audience truly feel like we are visiting different locations. The character design is also excellent, creating some very recognisable characters from the beginning of the show and making the main characters immediately stand out.

The story is also very well written, with fascinating character arcs and a very clear conflict from the beginning of the show. Narratively, it is also structured very well, often ending its episodes in a cliffhanger and constantly building tension throughout its narrative that makes the audience want to keep watching episode after episode. The moments of exposition are also handled well and often happen during conflict, making them feel less information-heavy than they would otherwise be. Despite the TV format, there are moments when some conflicts or plotlines are resolved too quickly, which makes the overall pace of the show too fast at times.

There are quite a lot of elements that are derivative of other Star Wars movies. This is true of the characters themselves, some of which feel like different iterations of characters that the fans know and love, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi or Darth Vader, whose influence is very evident in the villain of this show both narratively and visually. In fact, the derivative elements are also present visually, with a lot of the character and props design heavily borrowed from the established canon of the franchise. Unfortunately, not only does this make the entire show feel repetitive, but it also easily becomes predictable.

Overall, The Ninth Jedi is a series that fans of Star Wars are going to like. While it does not bring many new elements to the franchise, it is a well-made show with wonderful animation, excellent cinematography, and brilliant writing. While somewhat derivative in narrative and visuals, the show is still going to be an entertaining product and something new for fans of the franchise to explore.
