In the third-part of this exclusive four-part series, Environics Analytics’ Sandra Ware, Director of Client Strategy – Travel explains that today’s audience of cruise traveller spans a broader range of lifestyles, motivations and travel behaviours. Ware writes: “They come with attitudes toward relaxation, exploration and escape often proving more predictive than age alone. Understanding these differences reveals three clear cruise audiences and one important group that shows why age alone can be misleading.”
And Ware explains: The cruise marketing opportunity appears to target a single audience. However, a deeper analysis of behaviour, trip length, attitudes, income levels, maintainer age and psychographic scores reveals useful insights.”
In fact, she says: “There are three clear cruise audiences: loyal committed cruisers, occasional cruisers and interested first-timers. It also reveals one important non-audience: older households that may look like prospects by age, but whose travel motivations point elsewhere.”
Ware adds: “Cruise format matters too. Mass market, river, luxury and expedition itineraries can appeal to very different motivations.”
