Wynonna Judd is honoring her late biological father through her latest musical release years after losing her mom, Naomi Judd.

The country icon revealed that a new track explores the emotional weight of learning about her true lineage decades into her life.

Wynonna’s biological father was Charles Jordan. However, he passed away in 2000, and the singer never got a chance to meet him.

The Country music star debuted a new track titled “Girl Who Could Sing,” reflecting on her late biological father, Jordan.

Inspired by discovering that Jordan kept press clippings of her music career before his passing, the artist used the piece to address her feelings of longing and uncertainty regarding their nonexistent connection.

Raised believing her mother Naomi Judd’s former spouse, Michael Ciminella, was her parent, Wynonna discovered the truth about her parentage at age 30. She said, “I was 30 years old when I learned the truth, that the man I called ‘Dad’ my entire life was not my biological father. It changed everything I thought I knew about who I was.”

By the time she intended to connect with Jordan, he had already passed away, leaving her with unresolved questions.

“I never got to hear his voice, look him in the eyes, or ask him why. I’ll carry those unanswered questions with me for the rest of my life,” she said, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

In the music video, the singer was captured sitting down in a chair surrounded by low lighting, which set the mood for the somber tone. She could be seen going through old write-ups as she sang on.

The track serves as the lead single for her upcoming record, “The Hard Truth,” arriving October 2.

Before releasing music about her biological father, Wynonna spent recent years working through the deep emotional aftermath of her mother Naomi’s death.

The country star continues to process the complex trauma surrounding the tragic loss of her mother, who died by suicide at age 76 following long-standing battles with mental health issues.

Reports regarding Naomi’s final written messages revealed distressing instructions directed at the performer, claiming that Wynonna wasn’t mentally stable. According to The Blast, an insider said that navigating those final written words remains an ongoing struggle for the vocalist.

“It will never leave her. And thank God for the tour. It may be difficult at times, but performing is what Wynonna loves to do. It’s nice to have the sunlight shining in again,” the insider noted.

Despite the heavy emotional burden, continuing her live concert commitments has provided Wynonna with a vital creative outlet and sense of purpose while healing from family tragedy.

Along with processing her mother’s tragic final written words, Wynonna spent months attempting to process the sudden loss of her long-time singing partner.

Following her mother’s death just months before their scheduled reunion tour, the vocalist spoke candidly about trying to accept the reality of Naomi’s suicide.

Alongside her sister Ashley Judd, who discovered their mother at her home, the singer found herself forced to navigate both personal grief and professional commitments alone on stage.

“I can’t quite wrap my head around it, and I don’t know that I ever will. That she left the way she did. That’s how baffling and cunning mental illness is,” she said, per The Blast.

Wynonna noted that she had to eventually make peace with not knowing the answers to her questions.

In addition to navigating her mother’s death and legacy, Wynonna has also faced severe public strain involving her daughter, Grace Kelley.

In a personal interview, Kelley addressed allegations of childhood sexual abuse involving her former stepfather, D.R. Roach, claiming her mother attempted to conceal the incidents rather than notify law enforcement.

Kelley explained that authorities were only contacted after the abuse was disclosed during professional counseling sessions, as reported by The Blast.

Kelley claimed that Judd only filed for divorce after Roach’s arrest in 2007. Roach later pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated sexual battery.

Following her public claims regarding her upbringing, Kelley credited a dramatic legal encounter with helping her achieve personal stability and sobriety.

According to The Blast, she described a major turning point in her recovery following an October 2024 arrest involving a trailer and van owned by Ground Zero Church of the Nazarene.

Despite leading to incarceration, Kelley viewed the ordeal as a life-changing catalyst that ultimately guided her toward a supportive faith-based community in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Reflecting on her current lifestyle away from substance abuse, Kelley expressed contentment regarding her new path, saying, “I’ve been looking for a home for a long time, and I think I found it.”
