The use of AI in the creative industry is on the rise, which, of course, is causing a lot of controversy. While some musicians hate it, others are totally open to embracing it. Musician and producer, Dr. Dre, is one of the latter. Keep reading to find out his thoughts on AI in the music industry.
Who Is Dr. Dre?
Dr. Dre, born Andre Young, first arrived at the music scene in the 1980s and has remained prevelant every since. Not only was he a major hip-hop artist in his early career, he also became an icredibly successful producer in addition to being a talent scout. Throughout his time in the industry, he has worked with some of the biggest names including Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dog, and Eminem.
Now, as time goes on, things are changing in the world. Computers continue to advance and are now even able to do tasks that seemed to be only possible through humans before this. While some artists that have been in the industry for years are fighting the ever changing world of technology, some are open to embracing it. Dr. Dre has decided to see what he can do with it.
Using AI For Music
AI is everywhere right now. It helps answer questions, create flyers, write social media captions and more. However, there’s another world it’s integrating into. That’s the world of music. While some artists shy away from this, claiming only people can truly create music, Dr. Dre disagrees. He doesn’t see it as a threat at all. Instead, he’s embracing it.
“I don’t see it as a threat. I think the only people that see it as a threat are the people who have trouble creating,” he says according to Yahoo!.
Instead of seeing it as something coming for his job, he sees it on the same level as other tech that changed the music industry for the good. In fact, he is excited to see what happens in the future.
“I had a discussion with a few people a few days ago. They were against AI, and I’m like, ‘OK, you sound like the person that would have been against the drum machine when it came out.’ Or synthesizers, right?’” the artist says. “It’s a new tool for creativity. Some people are afraid of learning new things. I’m embracing it. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen with this.”
Not only is he not afraid of it, but he’s actively using it right now.
“Yes, I’m using it. Again, as a tool to see what it would do with what I just did,” he claims.
