Julie Chen Moonves has presented Big Brother since its debut. Since that time, she has seen a number of houseguests compete on the show. Recently, she opened up about one such contestant who she thinks has what it takes to host the series.
Julie Chen Moonves Was Looking Towards The Future As Big Brother‘s Season 28 Is Set To Debut The Show’s 1,000th Episode
Chen Moonves is a television personality who has had multiple prolific roles throughout her career. From 2002 to 2010, she served as a co-anchor of The Early Show for CBS. Following this, she served as a moderator and co-host on The Talk until 2018.
However, for many, Julie is best known as the presenter of the American incarnation of Big Brother for CBS. She has had this role since the show’s debut in 2000.
Julie hasn’t announced plans to leave the franchise anytime soon. However, with the series set to air its historic 1,000th episode on August 27, 2026, and Season 30 on the horizon, she recently weighed in on the future. In fact, she recently gave an endorsement of sorts for someone who can take her place. Notably, it’s someone Big Brother fans know well.
This was Season 24 winner Taylor Hale, who fans have previously speculated was already being positioned to take over the role. Speaking with Variety, Julie appeared to agree that it wasn’t a bad idea. As she noted, “I’ve wondered that too because, to me, she would be perfect.”
Chen Moonves Speculated That Figures From A Certain Field Might Be Who Big Brother Has In Mind For Its Next Host
In addition to appearing on the show, Hale hosts Big Brother: Unlocked with Season 16 winner Derrick Levasseur and actor Jerry O’Connell. She also has experience in the role, as she previously filled in for Julie during a live episode when she was away for health-related reasons. Julie also noted that Hale already has on-air skills, serving as a correspondent for Entertainment Tonight.
There were a few other series alumni that Julie felt could also be a good fit. These were Season 16 winner Derrick Levasseur, Jeff Schroeder, and Jordan Lloyd.
However, there was one caveat, according to Julie, to this idea. As she mused, “But then I don’t know how the network would feel about, ‘Is it too close to home that they’ve walked in their shoes? Does that put them too much in a position of judgment?’ Part of me feels like maybe you want to keep the air pristine and have someone who comes from a news background. I got hired because I know how to do live interviews.”
Julie then clarified that she meant “old-school journalists.” As she explained, “I feel a lot of journalists today go on the airwaves, and I know exactly how they feel about an issue that they’re covering. To me, that’s not cool. Because then you have an agenda; you’re not really reporting.”
