Melvin joined Today as a news anchor in 2018. He later took over as a main co-anchor for the first and second hours in early 2025, ultimately taking over for Hoda Kotb following her own exit from the show.
In his personal life, Melvin married sports reporter Lindsay Czarniak in 2011. The two share a son, Delano, and a daughter, Sybil.
Recently, Czarniak highlighted her daughter Sybil’s recent performance during a Broadway-themed summer camp, where she was involved in a production of The Little Mermaid. Taking to Instagram, she wrote, “One of our summer highlights! Congrats to all the @broadwaybootcamp campers on an epic performance!”
The carousel post featured the family posing for a photo with Sybil. The final photo showcased Sybil on stage during the performance. Melvin discussed the performance during Monday’s episode of Today during the third hour. At the time, he shared, “Sybil had her performance in The Little Mermaid [on] Friday and Saturday, Friday night and Saturday afternoon.”

Speaking with Dylan Dreyer and Kaylee Hartung, who was filling in for Al Roker, he continued, “She was great. She was in her element, in all her glory there.” The doting dad also shared that theatre really appears to be “her thing.”
Dreyer then had a question about Melvin’s son, asking, “Does Del go and watch also?” Melvin quipped, “Begrudgingly, yes. Is he happy about it? Absolutely not.”
As previously reported, Czarniak herself also had big news to share with fans. She recently became the host of the true-crime television series, Game Day Murders, which also sees Shaquille O’Neal as an executive producer, on Investigation Discovery.
Melvin was absent during the following day’s episode. However, took to social media to share another family moment with fans: helping his kids get ready to start school in September. Sybil held up a plaque sharing that she was starting the fourth grade, while Del was starting seventh. The family all came together for the final post.
