Schneider Electric has announced the Canadian launch of its Level 2 EV charger.
Named the Schneider Charge, it is a residential Level 2 EV charger that, according to the company, is “designed to make home charging simpler, smarter and more accessible for Canadian households.”
The charger’s standout feature, known as SmartAmp dynamic load management, adjusts charging output based on a home’s available electrical capacity. Schneider Electric says this can help homeowners add a Level 2 charger without either the cost or complexity of an electric panel or service upgrade. Monitoring also continues without a WiFi connection, as the system uses panel-installed current transformers.
Schneider says that through the Schneider Charge app, users can build a smart charging schedule around time-of-use electricity rates, monitor charging sessions and prioritize charging when power is at its cheapest.
There is also an eSetup for contractors and electricians designed to make commissioning easier, reduce labour time on the job, and help homeowners connect with certified installers through the Qmerit installer network.
According to the press release, the Schneider Charge delivers up to 11.5kW/48A of Level 2 charging and is available in two connector options: NACS (JE400) and J1772, two of the most common EV connector types on the market.
Schneider noted that the charger is rated for both indoor and outdoor installation and operates in temperatures as low as -30°C. The charger is also Energy Star-certified and backed by a three-year warranty.
The Schneider Charge is available through the Schneider website, electrical distributors, and online portals of any major retailers. In-store availability at major Canadian retailers is set to follow later in the year.
