Former Bachelorette star Joe Amabile underwent brain surgery recently. Although he is on the mend, he is revealing one major hurdle he’s yet to overcome. So, what is a big battle that he is still dealing with? Keep reading for more details.
Joe Amabile Shocked Everyone With Brain Tumor
On The Bachelorette, Joe Amabile did not get a chance to shine as he was immediately eliminated. Yet, he ended up on Bachelor in Paradise and did get a chance at love. He then made a lasting impression as a competitor on Dancing with the Stars, landing in fifth place. Billed as “Grocery Store Joe,” he met Serena Pitt during his second stint on BIP, and he has been living his best life. Sadly, in July 2026, Joe revealed that he had been diagnosed with a brain tumor. This would require surgery, and then the doctors would decide what was next for him.
Everything looks great; as it was removed, he will continue medication to ensure it is gone. However, Joe is sharing the one battle he has left to fight aside from follow-ups and such. His speech has been impacted by the tumor, which is an awful side effect that he will have to work through. He did note that he is almost all the way back to his old self:
“I would say I’m about 90 percent back, but I still struggle a little bit.
Prior to his surgery, the doctors let The Bachelorette alum know that his speech could be affected. Afterward, he saw that it was, and now it has become his new normal:
“I could think of what to say, but I would have a hard time vocalizing it.”
Now, the medications are to keep away any cancer cells, so if speech is what he will need to work on, some would say he is lucky. Of course, learning that one has a brain tumor is terrifying, and Joe Amabile has been doing his best.
How Did This Happen?
Although Joe Amabile appears to be on the mend, he was still in disbelief that this happened to him. He admitted that he never ever expected to get a diagnosis such as this, and now, here he is. Regardless, he is remaining hopeful and optimistic:
“I think it’s one of those things where you’re like, ‘Oh, something like this will never happen to me’ — and here I am. They say it’s really early stages. I hope they are able to get it all, and I’m fine. But I will keep you updated.”
Fans and followers have continued to send in love and well wishes to Joe Amabile during this time. They only want to see him on the mend, which is truly inspiring. Hopefully, the next update is even better.
