Emilie Ikeda recently filled in as an anchor during an episode of Today. During the show, she had big news for both viewers and her co-workers. However, the Today crew also had a surprise for her.
Emilie Ikeda Joined Today Back In 2021, Having Previously Worked For Fox Atlanta
Ikeda is a New York-based NBC News correspondent, having joined the network in 2021. She has reported for a number of outlets for the network, including Today, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, and MSNBC.
From 2017 to 2019, Ikeda previously worked as a multimedia reporter for Fox News in Atlanta. Following this, she served as a reporter for Fox 5 Atlanta.
Recently, Ikeda has big news to share with her co-workers on Today. At the time, she was filling in for Al Roker, sitting alongside Dylan Dreyer and Craig Melvin.
During the program, Dreyer shared, “Now, we wanted to take a minute to catch up on this Monday morning after a busy weekend.” Addressing Ikeda, she shared, “Emilie, we like to do this around here on Mondays. We talk about our weekend and what all we did.”
Ikeda thought it was best to share what happened over the weekend with photos. This included photos of her with her husband, Pat, holding sonogram photos. Realizing the happy news, Melvin exclaimed, “Oh, my god! You’re having a baby!”
The Morning Show’s Crew Had Some Goodies For Ikeda & Her Upcoming Bundle Of Joy
Ikeda quipped, “For those at home, they legitimately don’t know.” Dreyer asked, “Wait, are you serious?” Ikeda confirmed, “Yeah. I’m five months pregnant. I’m due in January.”
Both Dreyer and Melvin rose from their seats to hug their co-star. Melvin shared, “This is so exciting.” Ikeda also shared that she received good parenting advice thanks to Dreyer and her podcast series, The Parent Chat.
Ikeda noted, “I’m so excited. And now, I’m in the stage where I can feel the baby kicking.” Dreyer mused, “Which is the most amazing phase to be in. Now, you’re not waiting for every doctor’s appointment to make sure everything’s okay.” Ikeda highlighted, “I might be in a bad mood, I might be preoccupied, I might be locked into a script, and then I feel this baby kick, and I’m like, ‘Aww. It’s my buddy!’”
However, the Today crew had a surprise of their own. A staff member brought out a gift basket filled with snacks, a Today onesie, and children’s books written by Roker and Dreyer. Ikeda shared, “Everyone has been so supportive and sweet, and thank you.”
