A Little Something Extra is the title of the comedy shot in Madrid and on the Canary Islands by David Marqués, the director of Ellipsis, Low Season, El club del paro, En fuera de juego, Isolated and co-writer of Champions, for which he received a Goya nomination. The film stars Goya Award winner Antonio Resines (for La buena estrella and recently seen in Mikaela and The Dinner), Quim Gutiérrez (currently appearing in Pedro Almodóvar’s latest film Bitter Christmas, which will be competing at Cannes next month), Marta González de Vega (Torrente presidente, the series Father There Is Only One) and Megan Montaner (La buena suerte, Papers).
Written by Marta González de Vega herself, the plot follows Antonio (played by Antonio Resines) and Félix (Quim Gutiérrez), two small-time thieves who, while fleeing the police after robbing a jewellery store, cross paths with Eva (Megan Montaner), the leader of a theatre troupe made up of people with disabilities. Mistaking Félix for Ángel — a new member she has never met — she welcomes them in. Seizing the opportunity, the two men slip into the group… unaware that a week-long creative retreat awaits them.
Filmed on location in Madrid and the Canary Islands, and, described by its creators as a film “that blends humour, emotion and a perspective rarely seen in Spanish comedy”, A Little Something Extra tells a story in which prejudices crumble and the characters are forced to see one another — and themselves — in a new light. A comedy about the importance of putting ourselves in other people’s shoes, about empathy.”
“Making this film has been one of the most enjoyable and exciting experiences of my life. My greatest hope is that audiences will feel that same energy when they watch it. Even if they experience only half of what the team felt during filming, I’d be more than satisfied, because even then I’m convinced they’ll laugh and be deeply moved,” David Marqués concludes.
A Little Something Extra is being produced by Santiago Segura through Bowfinger International Pictures, in association with Esto también pasará, Glow, Pequeñas Grandes cosas AIE and Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia, in co-production with Mexican company Studio 33, and with the participation of Prime Video and Atresmedia as well as support from the ICAA. It will be distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia in Spain from 10 July. After its release in cinemas, it will be available on Prime Video.
