Aaron Rodgers has confirmed he will retire after the 2026 NFL season.
After stretching his decision over whether to return for a second year with the Pittsburgh Steelers out over four months, Rodgers signed a one-year deal worth up to $25million last week.
But the four-time MVP’s career will not stretch into the 2027 campaign.
Asked by reporters on Wednesday if his 22nd season in the league will be his last, the 42-year-old Rodgers said: “Yes, this is it.”
Rodgers revealed that the Steelers’ decision to hire Mike McCarthy, who he played under for just shy of 13 seasons during his decorated spell with the Green Bay Packers, as their new head coach was a key factor in him electing to return to Pittsburgh.
“I thought that was probably it for me in Pittsburgh,” he added about the resignation of longtime head coach Mike Tomlin in January.
“But when the decision was made to hire Mike [McCarthy], I started opening my mind back up to coming back.”
The Steelers went 10-7 last season, winning the AFC North before losing 30-6 to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round. Rodgers completed 65.7 per cent of his passes for 3,322 yards and 24 touchdowns with seven interceptions.
