New York City FC announced Wednesday that midfielder Aiden O’Neill and defender Kai Trewin will be out indefinitely after ankle surgeries.
O’Neill, who has posted three assists in 11 MLS matches this season, underwent a procedure on his left ankle. Trewin, who owns one goal and two assists in 18 appearances across all competitions, had his right ankle repaired.
The Australia natives just finished playing in the World Cup.
O’Neill started all four matches for Australia, which went 1-1-1 in group-stage play before falling in penalty kicks to Egypt in the round of 32. He was named Man of the Match for the scoreless tie with Paraguay on June 25.
Trewin entered the Egypt match early and played 75 minutes.
