The ruling Socialists’ junior coalition partner Sumar has put forward a new proposal which seeks to change the minimum requirements for rental properties in Spain and make air conditioning mandatory. The hard-left party’s housing spokesperson, Alberto Ibáñez, explained that their main objective is to make it mandatory for all rental properties to have air conditioning systems installed. Ibáñez argued that tenants need “adequate climate conditions” in their homes and that this measure is essential to prevent tenants from “sweltering in their homes”.
