Avril Lavigne has released a cover of Alanis Morissette’s 1995 anthem “Ironic.” The song is part of the soundtrack for Mile End Kicks, a coming-of-age movie about a music journalist (Barbie Ferreira) moving to Montreal to work on a book inspired by Morrissette’s Jagged Little Pill.
“[Alanis Morissette] just fucking put it right out there,” Lavigne explained during her 2022 AP cover story. “Looking back, I feel like she was huge and helped me realize that you don’t have to be prim and proper, or perfect, or say all the right things.”

Lavigne’s take on the song stays true to the original, highlighting her signature grunge-y vocals. Back in 2005, Lavigne joined Morissette onstage in Los Angeles at the House of Blues to perform “Ironic” as a duet.
