Warner Bros has just unveiled the trailer for DC’s Batman: Knightfall Part 1, the first installment in a new animated film trilogy based on the 1993 DC Comics story written by Doug Moench and adapted for the screen by director Jeff Wamester and writer Jeremy Adams.
The film will feature the voice work of Anson Mount as the Dark Knight, alongside Michael Mando as Bane and Pablo Schreiber as Azrael.
The project was first announced at 2025’s New York Comic Con.
Batman: Knightfall charts Bruce Wayne’s struggle with burnout and a stifling assault carried out by supervillain Bane, resulting in his taking a step back from his vigilante alias and letting an apprentice, Jean-Paul Valley or Azrael, take the reins. When the newcomer unleashes an aggressive and detrimental spin on the Dark Knight title, Bruce Wayne must seek recovery and reclaim his mission to fight crime.
The original comic scored number 15 on IGN’s ranking of Batman storylines.
“What makes Knightfall, Part One so memorable is not the actual snapping of Batman’s back. It’s the quick fall into despair that proves most shocking,” writer Hilary Goldstein explained. The ending is a foregone conclusion as Batman is worn down both physically and mentally. The Batman’s spirit is broken before his vertebrae, and that’s a feat you’ll never see accomplished anywhere else.”
Sam Register and Michael Uslan serve as executive producers, alongside Rick Morales as supervising producer and producers Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau.
Batman: Knightfall – Part 1 will be released later this year.
