Summer is about to get even hotter. Big Brother returns for Season 28 in July. Julie Chen returns as host, a role she’s held since the reality competition premiered in 2000. CBS is gearing up for a milestone season by teasing this season’s theme. The contestants will also face epic twists and turns throughout the season. Keep reading for more details.
Big Brother Reveals Shocking Season 28 Theme
Big Brother traditionally airs during the summer, giving TV viewers a way to beat the heat while watching the drama unfold. The fandom is all-consuming, with live feeds and a post-show analysis. Jerry O’Connell joins Big Brother: Unlocked to share his thoughts on the gameplay, strategies, and more.
Season 28 premieres on Thursday, July 9, with a 90-minute episode that starts at 8 PM Eastern. CBS has kept the details of the new season close to the vest. They just announced this season’s theme and it’s a blast from the past. Season 28’s theme is “Time Trip.” The house is filled with nostalgia from the 1980s through the 2000s. But it’s more than just decor. The decorations could be part of the game, but we won’t know until the show starts.
A huge clock on the wall reminds contestants of the time trip theme. The significance of the clock has yet to be revealed. But what we do know is that the contestants sleep in bunk beds that have a futuristic pod look. Click here to see photos of the house.

More Epic ‘Twists & Turns’ Planned
So far, CBS has only released the theme and photos of the house. But according to The U.S. Sun, the network has a ton of twists and turns planned for viewers and the contestants. Big Brother reaches a huge milestone during the season as it airs its 1,000th episode.
The show is expected to hit the milestone in the middle of Season 28. Sources revealed that the special episode will be longer than usual. Furthermore, it will feature some of Big Brother‘s favorite alums. The entire season leans heavily on nostalgia, including the 1,000th episode.
Returning Houseguests?
Knowing the theme and the twists coming are great. But what viewers really want to know is the names of the contestants. One eagle-eyed fan spotted 15 chairs at the kitchen table. Big Brother typically hosts between 14 and 17 houseguests, so the number of chairs could be significant. Or it could be a red herring.
Many fans believe that Season 28 will mix former houseguests with newbies. Speculation is rampant on social media about whose name is on the list. CBS is keeping the list as secret as possible. The houseguests won’t be revealed until July 7, two days before Season 28 premieres. Tell us in the comments who you want to see return.
