Canadian Olympic gold medalist Sidney Crosby of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia was the most dynamic player on the ice on Monday at the 2026 International Ice Hockey Federation World Men’s Hockey Championships in Switzerland. Crosby, who won the gold medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, had four assists in Fribourg in a commanding 5-1 Canada win over Denmark. All six goals in the game came in the third period.
With the win, Canada improved to a record of three wins and zero losses. The win over Denmark was a bounce back victory for the Canadians. A year ago, Denmark stunned Canada 2-1 in the quarterfinals at the 2025 IIHF World Men’s Hockey Championships in Herning, Denmark.
In Canada’s win over Denmark on Monday, the Canadian goal scorers were Philadelphia Flyers right winger Porter Martone of Peterborough, Ontario, Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Denton Mateychuk of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Nashville Predators centre Ryan O’Reilly of Clinton, Ontario, Winnipeg Jets centre Gabriel Vilardi of Kingston, Ontario, and Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Parker Wotherspoon of Surrey, British Columbia.
Two more Canadians had a multi-point game. They were Martone (one goal and one assist for two points), and San Jose Sharks centre Macklin Celebrini of North Vancouver, British Columbia (two assists).
Canada next plays Norway on Thursday. There are three teams undefeated so far. The other two countries at 3-0 are Finland and Switzerland.
