It was a tremendous day on Monday on the fourth full day of competition at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Team Canada came away with four gold medals and 12 medals overall (five silver medals and three bronze medals).
The four gold medalists were Lia-Monica Fontaine of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec (women’s vault), Jordan Carroll of St. John’s, Newfoundland (men’s pommel horse), Felix Dolci of Saint-Eustache, Quebec (men’s rings), and Ethan Katzberg of Nanaimo, British Columbia (men’s hammer throw). The five Canadian silver medalists were Rene Cournoyer of Repentigny, Quebec (men’s floor), Ellie Black of Halifax, Nova Scotia (women’s uneven bars), William Emard of Laval, Quebec (men’s rings), Ann-Sophie Taschereau of Plessisville, Quebec (women’s 58 kilogram weightlifting), and Michael Barber (men’s 1500 metre running for athletes with a disability). The three bronze medalists were Rowan Hamilton of Chilliwack, British Columbia (men’s hammer throw), Zachary Gingras of Markham, Ontario (men’s 100 metre running for athletes with a disability) and Rebekah Groulx of Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Quebec (women’s 53 kilogram weightlifting).
In the women’s vault, Fontaine had a winning score of 14 points. Abigail Martin of England won the silver medal with a score of 13.799 points. Abigail Roper of Wales won the bronze medal with a score of 13.433 points. Fontaine reached the podium by 0.717 points over Emily Roper of Wales, who had a fourth place score of 13.283 points.
In the men’s pommel horse, Carroll had a terrific score of 15 points. Reuben Ward of Scotland won the silver medal with 14.966 points. Cameron Lynn of Scotland won the bronze medal with 13.833 points. Carroll reached the podium by 1.667 points over Ritam Malik of Australia, who had a fourth place score of 13.333 points.
In the men’s rings, Dolci won the gold medal with 13.766 points, and Emard had a second place score of 13,6 points. James Hardy of Australia won the bronze medal with 13.5 points. Dolci reached the podium by 0.3 points over Sokratis Pilakouris of Cyprus, who had a fourth place score of 13.466 points.
In the men’s hammer throw, Katzberg defended his Commonwealth Games gold medal from four years ago in Birmingham. He posted a winning throw of 80.97 metres (a Commonwealth Games record). Iosif Kesidis of Cyprus won the silver medal with a throw of 76.97 metres. Hamilton won the bronze medal with a throw of 75,36 metres. Katzberg reached the podium by 9.31 metres over Jake Norris of England, who had a throw of 71.66 metres.
In boxing, Amber-Jane Wall of Fort McMurray, Alberta won her round of 16 bout in the women’s 51 kilogram division by beating Ramatu Quaye of Ghana 5-0. Joshua Ofori of Edmonton, Alberta won his round of 16 bout in the men’s 80 kilogram division as he defeated Aminiasi Saratibau of Fiji.
Canada is now at 21 medals (seven gold medals, eight silver medals and six bronze medals). They are third in the overall medal standings, behind Australia at 59 medals and England at 32 medals.
