The trailer for the animalistic, women-led horror film Ferine has just dropped ahead of its Fantasia International Film Festival release, starring You Are Not My Mother’s Carolyn Bracken and written and directed by Andrea Corsini. Ferine is based on Corsini’s 2019 short film of the same title and is the filmmaker’s first English-language production.
The synopsis takes us into the world of wealthy and stable art collector Irene, whose life unravels upon a tragic incident involving a baby she has adopted. Irene’s grief results in her developing a strange yet intense animalistic instinct that thrusts her onto a path of destruction as her body and mind succumb to the new primal urge.
Caroline Goodall is among the cast as an exotic predator animal trafficker.
Who is predator and who is prey when the two form a disturbing bond?
Additional cast members include Paola Lavini and Elisabetta Caccamo, with an intense score delivered by Carrie and Don’t Look Now composer Pino Donaggio.
Corsini’s additional filmography includes 2011’s Non nel mio giardino (not in my garden or backyard), while Bracken has appearances in The Quiet Girl, Oddity, and the TV series The Gone. Goodall can be recognised for her work in 1991’s Hook, the action thriller Cliffhanger, the Michael Critchon adaptation Disclosure, the Oscar-winning film Schindler’s List and The Princess Diaries.
Ferine will be one of 125 features and over 200 short films debuting at the Fantasia International Film Festival. Additional titles include Sour Minnows by Harrison Atkins, The Last Temptation of Becky by Jenn Wexler, The Eyes by Yeom Ji-ho, Corpus by Corrin Evans and Freaks II by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein.
The Fantasia International Film Festival takes place from 16th July to 2nd August.
