Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada says the club are in a “good place” to win the Premier League either next season or the one after.

Berrada targeted the club’s 21st Premier League title by 2028 when he was appointed in 2023, which will be their 150th anniversary.

A strong end to the season – following Michael Carrick’s mid-season arrival – saw the Red Devils finish third in the Premier League and secure a return to the Champions League and the club chief believes a first league title since 2013 is now close.

“Ideally, we do it next season, and if not, then the following season. I think we’re in a good place,” he said on Inside Man Utd.

“We’re going to continue investing in different areas of the club. There are other objectives off the pitch that we’d like to achieve as well.

“One of them is to be financially sustainable, to introduce commercial innovation in the club.”

Berrada: We want Bruno to stay

Berrada insisted United are planning to keep hold of captain Bruno Fernandes after an excellent season which saw him win the FWA Player of the Season and break the Premier League record for most assists in a single season with 21.

“I think in Bruno, we have a fantastic captain. Absolutely fantastic,” Berrada added.

Pressed whether he wants him to stay at the club, United’s chief said:

“We’d like him to stay. Of course we do. He’s had a great season on the pitch and more importantly, I think he’s shown everybody that he is a great leader.

“People don’t see what he does outside the pitch and he deserves a lot of credit.”

Transfer stretegy from last summer will continue

On the topic of their transfer plans this summer, Berrada said Man Utd would continue with the strategy laid down last summer, which saw them bring in Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.

“The template for what we did last summer will be replicated,” he added.

“You never know how you will come out of a window. You have to be really prepared, you have to have a clear plan, you have to know what positions you want to strengthen and you also have to be prepared for any eventuality.

“There could be exits you weren’t expecting or opportunities that weren’t there at the beginning of the window. We have to be agile and flexible.

“We have a clear plan. [Director of football] Jason Wilcox and his team are well set up to execute that plan.

“What we saw last season is a good way forward for us.

“We want a mix of experience and youth. A mix of players who have demonstrated they can perform in the Premier League and players that are doing very well outside the Premier League.

“Whatever decisions we take will not just be for the short term but the long term.”
