The most significant result of the day in terms of the La Liga relegation battle came from Levante, who came into Saturday on 36 points and in the bottom three, produced their best performance in weeks to beat Mallorca 2-0 at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia and drag themselves clear of the drop zone with one game remaining.

Carlos Espi opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a finish from outside the area, and Kervin Arriaga headed in a second from a corner in the 87th minute to put the result beyond doubt. A

late penalty from Adrian de la Fuente struck the bar in stoppage time, but it did not matter. Both sides also had a player sent off in the 85th minute – Roger Brugue for Levante and Johan Mojica for Mallorca – following a VAR review for violent conduct.

Elsewhere, there was a relatively straightforward win for Elche, but one that carries significant weight in the battle to beat the drop.

Victor Chust scored in the 19th minute with a low drive from outside the area, and the lead held despite Getafe playing with 10 men from the 39th minute after Djene was sent off for a second yellow card.

Espanyol picked up a valuable three points in the relegation fight, coming from behind to beat Osasuna 2-1 in a result that keeps their safety well within reach.

Carlos Romero’s deflected free-kick gave Espanyol the lead on 27 minutes, Victor Munoz levelled immediately after half-time with a strike from outside the box, but Kike Garcia finished coolly from close range on 53 minutes to restore the advantage and ultimately secure the win.

Atletico Madrid kept their third-place finish hopes alive with a 1-0 win over Girona, though the result does significant damage to Girona’s own survival hopes. Ademola Lookman finished at close range on 21 minutes after a Griezmann cross, and Oblak did the rest, denying several Girona efforts in the second half. Girona drop into a more precarious position with one game left.

Serie A round-up: Juventus’ top-four dream in chaos

The biggest shock of the Serie A weekend came at Juventus, who were beaten 2-0 at home by Fiorentina in a result that has thrown the top-four race wide open on the penultimate weekend.

Cher Ndour opened the scoring on 34 minutes, fed through by Manor Solomon, and Rolando Mandragora – a former Juventus player – bent a stunning left-footed strike into the top corner on 82 minutes to seal it.

Vlahovic had a goal disallowed by VAR for offside. Juventus drop to sixth heading into the final day. They will need to beat Torino in the Derby della Mole and hope at least two of Milan, Roma and Como drop points.

Milan dug deep at the Luigi Ferraris to collect three vital points, moving into third place on a crucial afternoon in the race for European football.

Christopher Nkunku converted a penalty on 50 minutes after a reckless back-pass from Amorim. Zachary Athekame doubled the lead in the 81st minute with a ferocious strike from the edge of the area after Pulisic’s sharp work in the box. Johan Vasquez pulled one back for Genoa late on in a frantic finish, but Milan held on.

It was a dominant derby performance from Roma, who beat Lazio 2-0 at the Olimpico with Gianluca Mancini heading home twice – on 40 and 66 minutes, both from corners. A double red card in the 70th minute saw Wesley dismissed for Roma and Nicolo Rovella for Lazio. Roma climb to fourth.

Alberto Moreno’s first-half volley on 58 minutes was enough to give Como victory over Parma and move them into fifth – directly behind Roma and directly above the stricken Juventus.

Como go into the final day knowing a win could yet secure Champions League football if results elsewhere go their way.

Ligue 1: Paris FC produce historic comeback to stun PSG

The most extraordinary result of the weekend came from the French capital, where Paris FC beat city rivals PSG 2-1 in a comeback for the ages on the final day of the Ligue 1 season.

Bradley Barcola gave Luis Enrique’s side the lead in the 50th minute, but Paris FC, making their first return to Ligue 1 in 46 years, refused to buckle.

Substitute Alimami Gory levelled in the 76th minute with a close-range finish, and then, in the fourth minute of stoppage time, a lightning counter-attack from the freshly introduced trio of Kebbal, Koleosho and Gory split PSG open completely. Luca Koleosho ran clear of the defence and squared for Gory to tap into an empty net and complete one of the great Ligue 1 upsets.

PSG, who had already confirmed the title, were rotating heavily with a Champions League final against Arsenal in Budapest to come on May 28, and paid the price.
